why do you need to Create Emotionially Intelligent Leaders?

Leaders are not just Managers or Supervisors. Leaders are individuals who have the ability to impact and influence those around them.

Even more, an emotionally intelligent leader will have the ability to properly gauge and calibrate those around them so that they can use the most effective strategy to achieve the desired outcome. 

A good leader is an influencer and has the ear of those around them. They also have ideas and are inspirational, they will listen to all, weigh up the best options and then move forward, bringing the entire team with them.

You next leader needs to be all of those things if they are going to be an effective addition to your team and someone you can rely upon to drive your team forward.

How to identify your next leader?

Your next leader is probably already within your team. Very often the next golden nugget is right under our noses, they are just covered in the dust and debris of life. When you identify them, wash them off and shine them up, they will be the most valuable find you have ever had.

But how do we find and identify these nuggets?

Here are some things to look out for:

  • They are keen to learn, have a thirst for knowledge. 

  • They will adopt and adapt to change quickly.

  • They will also encourage change through challenging others and then encouraging others by setting an example and infulencing them.

  • They are the ideas person. The one who will look at tasks, jobs, strategies and suggest new perspectives and ways forward.

  • Always there, turns up everytime without any excuses. Consistent and reliable.

  • When they are sick, they have to be told to go home, because they will not go of their own accord, they believe they are fine to carry on.

These are the people who you can invest in. These are the people who will give you your best Return of Investment ever.

Your team is your greatest asset and when other team members see an individual who they like and trust, being recognised for their consistant effort and dedication, this will in turn inspire them even more. 

what next? what do I do now i have identified an ideal person?

So you have identified a possible candidate, but how do you actually train them?

  1. You could use your own experience, insights and knowledge about leadership and spend a few years training them, inbetween running the rest of the team, your business, growing the business etc.

  2. You could purchase an online, generic, training package and have your ideal person sit in front of a screen and watch videos and answer multiple choice questions and hope that the training gives them the tools in their toolbox.

  3. You could engage a professional development trainer and facilitator who has over 18 years of leadership training and has trained 1000's of individuals in the military. Someone who has a proven track record and even more has an extremely in depth knowledge of human behaviour and has the skill to be able to train the person you have identified and meet your needs. 

As with everything in life, the choice is yours. 

However if you opt for option 3, this is what you can expect.

12 Week Emotional Intelgent Leadership training

Week 1 - What is emotional intelligence and what role does it play in leadership?

  • Get clear on the aims of the program.

  • Create the language and standards required to successfully graduate.

  • Discuss what is Leadership? What does it look like, sound like, feel like?

  • What is good Leadership? What is poor Leadership?

  • What is emotional intelligence?

  • What is the importance of being emotionally intelligent?

  • How can you grow your emotional intelligence?

 

Week 2 - Understanding emotions

  • Understanding emotions, what are they, why do we have them?

  • Emotions v Feelings – what’s the difference?

  • 4 Step strategy to dealing with emotions.

  • Shame – how to understand what Shame is and recognise it.

  • How to turn Toxic Shame into Healthy Shame.

 

Week 3 - Connection and the ability to effectively communicate with others

  • Create solid relationships based on the 6 Core Needs of all human beings.

  • Learn to Listen – listening is a skill that not many people possess. When people feel listened too, they feel valued. In leadership it is imperative to listen.

  • Partake in the Listening Workshop.

 

Week 4 - Calibration of yourself, others and situations

  • Understand how we take on board information and situations.

  • Understand and develop filters that will serve us well and to be able to create different perspectives.

  • Feedback, the importance of feedback and how to give and receive it.

  • Develop an understanding of the universal growth model that applies to everyone.

  • 7 levels of the Trustme Model.

 

Week 5 - Conflict management

  • Using the skills already learnt, apply them to deal with and manage conflict.

  • Peace Pyramid – a tried and trusted system to managing and resolving conflict.

  • Role Play to put to use the skills already developed.

 

Week 6 - Self-discipline

  • The art of Self-Discipline.

  • How to develop and grow Self-Discipline using a Self-Discipline Triad.

  • Develop your own plan and implement it using the Self-Discipline Triad.

 

Week 7 - Growth & development through effective goal setting

  • Without growth, we stagnate – “We are either green and growing or ripe and rotting”

  • Learn about effective Goal Setting that will ensure constant, sustainable growth and development.

  • Discuss how this can be applied to ourselves and others.

 

Week 8 - Systematic approach to all tasks

  • Without structure there is chaos.

  • Bring sustainability and replicability to all task using the Critical Alignment Model (CAM Model)

 

Week 9   The power of the mind

  • Discover the power of mindset and how you can focus your mindset to achieve fantastic outcomes, time after time.

  • Exploring Neuro Linguistic Programming Techniques such Association and Disassociation, Time Line Therapy and Deep State Repatterning.

 

Week 10 - How to become an influencer

  • Leadership is about influencing those around you.

  • Influence is an art and you will learn the subtleties of this art.

  • Learn about influence and how you can use these skills to influence those around you.

  • “Managers – tell” “Leaders – influence”

 

Week 11 - Misalignment

  • How to recognise resistance in what you are doing, thinking and feeling. Also, how to recognise resistance in others.

  • Understand the impact of just 1% of misalignment and the detrimental impact it has on yourself and others around you.

  • How to reduce the probability of Misalignment.

 

Week12 – Debriefing 

  • Using a model that I have adapted from my Military background, discover the value of Debriefing, unpacking, self-reflection and how to use it to grow and develop.

  • You will then use this technique to debrief each of the previous 11 sessions and identify the areas where you can grow even further.
