Burnout - What it is, how to recognise it & how to prevent it

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

Burn out is something that everyone can experience.

RIght now, at the time of recording this information we are in the midst of COVID-19 and there is heaps of Stress, worry and anxiety as to how things will turn out.

People are working all the hours that they physically and mentally can trying to work out a way through this crazy period.

Even more, people are mostly working from home. So they have the added pressure of kids at home due to homeschooling, partners working from home too. On top of this there is the pressure to keep doing the same hours, as well as doing whatever is required to be done to comply with restrictions and all the extra work this entails.

Because of all of this, Burnout is a real risk and for a few of my clients it is already starting to happen.

The risk of Burnout is that you become ineffective, you become moody, snappy, irritable, you start to loath what you once loved....your work, your clients, your colleagues and even your family.

Burnout is real and does happen. The consequences are costly in both financial and personal ways. People have got divorced due to burnout, people have lost their jobs, their businesses, thier livelihoods because of Burnout...

However, many people continue to stick their heads in the sand and say "I'm OK" "She'll be right" "Let's just get through this" and plough on head first into Burnout and a possible break down......and then what use are they to anyone?

So, I share this with you because as an advocate of Mental Wellbeing, I feel it is my duty to share so that others can have their awareness raised. What you choose to do with this awareness is totally your responsibility.

What I share in this video may seem like common sense, but what we all know is that common sense is not really that common and if it were, everyone would be doing it. You may think these are "soft" skills and you just don't have the time for such mumbojumbo, and if that is your perspective, that is perfectly fine.

But awareness around things like Burnout may make the difference between coming out of the otherside of this ready to kick forward, re-launch or being like a frazzled chip and not being either enthused or motivated to do anything...

This is by no means a fully comprehensive dive into Burnout, this is a very global perspective...a helicopter flight over Burnout to see and identify the key elements. If you want to know more please contact me.

I trust this video serves you well and as I just said, if you want to discuss anything further please reach out to me via my website www.iamenoughcoaching.com or emailing me steve@iamenoughcoaching.com I would love to hear your thoughts, insights, experiences or ahha moments.

I am also more than happy to chat about anything else that I do, you can find out more about what I do via website, using the link above.
