"If you only wanted to talk and vent then you should have gone to a Counsellor"
40 minutes into the session and she was still sharing her story...
Even more, she was stuck in a "loop"
Sharing the same point of the story in many different ways...
How could I tell her that...
If she didn't pull her head out of her arse and look at things from a different perspective...
She would only ever experience what she had for the last 20+ years.
I was starting to think, is this the first person I have ever come across who is uncoachable....
I couldn't get a word in edgeways...
So I called her on it...
I interupted her and told her that if she continued to tell herself the same story over and over again that is all she would ever experience and that would be a waste of her life
That pulled her up in her tracks...
I went on to explain that as a Coach my role is to listen, observe and offer insights that generate new ways of thinking...
Then she started again "If you just let me finish"....
I said "NO, I have heard enough to have a good understanding where she was"
I went on to explain that if she didn't want to discuss different perspectives and ideas, then she should have gone to a Counsellor and they would have listened to her all day long.
I said, that I perhaps we should call it a day, that I wouldn't charge her for the hour we had by now used...
and that perhaps we were incompatible.
It was like a switch had been flicked in her head...
We went on to have a fantastic coaching session and we have many more scheduled...
As a coach it is my job to have those uncomfortable conversations...
To call my clients out and hold them accountable...where applicable.
And even to get up and leave if it is not in the best interests of the client to continue...
I have sacked clients before because they are not getting the maximum from their investment of money and time.
I feel like a fraud if my clients are not making the progress they should be, so I have given refunds and found them a new coach.
Because, if I don't have integrity, how can they?
My job is to assist others to "take their heads out of their arses" and see what else is around them...
This is done in a very polite and respectful way... and this is why my clients get the results and outcomes that they do...
Because I keep things real....
It is effective and changes peoples lives forever...
I am sure my clients will vouch for me...
